Panel text reads:
I, MAXIMUS OF GLOUCESTER, TO YOU

By ear, he sd.
But that which matters, that which insists, that which will last
where shall you find it, my people, how, where shall you listen
when all is become billboards, when all, even silence
when even the gulls,
my roofs,
when even you, when sound itself

I, Maximus of Gloucester, to You
By ear, he sd.
But that which matters, that which insists, that which will last
where shall you find it, my people, how, where shall you listen
when all is become billboards, when all, even silence is
when even the gulls,
my roofs,
When even you, when sound itself

Where, Portygee Hill, she sang
and over the water, at Tarr’s

Inscription on the manuscript to JW from Olson for the publication of The Maximus Poems/1-10. Olson got it wrong. I went to Stuttgart, not Strasbourg. More spätzle and less foie gras. No matter. Some of the best printers in Germany.
Letter from Olson to JW in response to shipment of The Maximus Poems/1-10.
