1995 Remembering Black Mountain College Exhibition and Alumni Reunion Collection
1995
The Remembering Black Mountain College Collection includes panels created for the 1995 exhibition Remembering Black Mountain College and photos from the BMC reunion organized by Mary Holden Thompson, founding director of Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center. On October 27, 1995, over one hundred former BMC faculty and students gathered in Black Mountain to celebrate BMC nearly forty years after the college’s closing. An exhibition, Remembering Black Mountain College, was curated by Mary Emma Harris in conjunction with Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center. Alumni were asked to create their own works to contribute to the exhibition, Harris said of this process:
"I asked those on my mailing list to contribute a panel 18” x 24” on which they would remember the college. I emphasized that this was not a conventional art exhibition and that those in all professions and walks of life should feel free to contribute."
