BMC librarian Nell Rice kept a collection of discarded or left-behind artwork, posters, and magazine tear-sheets for students and faculty to use. This painting was selected by Norman Solomon when he arrived at BMC in 1950 and it hung in his study until he left the college in 1952. He then gave it, along with his own paintings, to newly-arrived student Marie Tavroges. He told her that it was a painting "done by de Kooning." Norman had planned to take these works with him to NYC but ultimately didn't have room. This painting has not been authenticated, so the identity of its maker remains an intriguing possibility based on word of mouth for now.
