Bana Haffar is a synthesist based in Montreal, Canada. In 2019 she composed Shed, commissioned by the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center and premiered in a performance by Haffar and Third Coast Percussion on Februrary 3, 2020. In Shed, Haffar translates weaving draft notation into musical notation. Shed treats sound (synthesized, recorded, or live) as material and subjects it to structure according to draft notation, echoing the rigorous matieral experimentation characteristic of Anni Albers' weaving classes at Black Mountain College
