Created by the artist in 1937 for the series The Four Elements: Water, Air, Fire & Earth in the debut issue (Volume 1. No. 1. December 1937) of Verve, the quarterly Parisian art magazine published by Teriade between 1937 and 1960, documenting modern art in France. The other three lithographs in the series were created by Joan Miró, Abraham Rattner, and Francisco Borespic.
