A Perspective
Panel text reads:
A PERSPECTIVE Ah, Black Mountain! Where life and love were young And dreams were vibrant and indestructible And life was forever! We knew not that we were walking on tender, baby feet as they took their tender, baby steps; Following a path already laid out, Reading a script already written, Making choices made long since, Each a lesson Love would have us learn. In memory, Black Mountain is an island reflecting the high adventure of youth Where we wakened from the cocoon of childhood dreams And stretched our wings to experience the beginnings of learning and creativity - A time of excitement and discovery And the beginnings of I Am I. The self-importance of youth, nay, the arrogance of youth, has faded, and humility, gentleness and compassion have taken their place. The illusion fades as we grow into ourselves and beyond the dream. Thank you, beautiful Black Mountain, home of my youth and growth, for dreams and happy times. Welcome to the freedom that beckons the future When we may recall the ancient, forgotten melody That was ours before. Ruth O’Neill Burnett BMC 1941-1942
