Photo Album of Family Pictures at Lake Eden Inn
circa 1930 – 1940
Note: Only a portion of the pages that are in the scrapbook have been photographed and are included here.
The Lake Eden Inn was a summer resort built in the early 1920's by E.W. Grove at the location that would become the second home of Black Mountain College. The resort was built as a family-friendly spot for visitors and tourists as well as for residents of the nearby Grovemont community, also developed by Grove. During the late 1930s while BMC was transitioning from the Blue Ridge Assembly campus to the Lake Eden campus, the college operated the Lake Eden Inn as a way to earn some money.
The buildings in place when the college bought the property included the Dining Hall, Round House, Lodges, a few houses, and other small structures. These formed the core of BMC's Lake Eden campus, soon expanded upon when thh large Studies Building was constructed. Additional building projects continue through the mid-1940s.
