Trude Guermonprez

Trude Guermonprez was born in Poland in 1910. Trude studied weaving with Benita Otte-Kuch, a Bauhaus student, and then went to work as a textile designer in Holland. After WWII ended, and with the death of her husband at the hands of the Nazis, Trude left Holland and came to BMC to be reunited with her mother Johanna Jalowetz and sister Lisa Aronson. Initially she served as a guest consultant in weaving and then in 1948 was appointed to the faculty. She left BMC in 1949 and moved to California to join ceramic artist Marguerite Wildenhain’s Pond Farm artist collective. She also taught at Oakland College, San Francisco Art Institute, and the California College of Arts and Crafts where she was chair of the crafts department.
